DDOS IV: Ex-Waymo engineers launch Bedrock Robotics to automate construction
by Alhazred

July 16, 2025

A few people that used to make small vehicles move around a city with no driver, now aim to make big vehicles move around a construction site with no driver, in a potential opening in a combination of outstanding construction orders and an upcoming shortage in construction work positions.

Some Hackers instantly jump on the NIMBY hatewagon and cordially discuss how it really is just never profitable to be involved with construction because of unions, red tape and politics. Others retort that really, these are all insignificant costs and permitting is the easiest thing after drilling for oil. This is until blue collar Hackers that work in the construction industry instead of making "computer apps" jump in this discussion and tell the rest how it really is in the real world.

Eventually, the (assumedly) CTO and co-founder of Bedrock jumps into the discussion on a just-created account to hire Hackers for his company in the middle of the thread. Some Hackers ask some really insightful questions, such as "will you replace all humans with robots" and "why does your software company hire software engineers instead of architects". These insightful questions go unanswered.
